2010 Nov 19 - Genesis 40 - Brenda

Morning Everyone again!

I am so happy today as it's my first time to join the QT station in Mei foo, brothers and sisters coming from different sectors to encourage each other and sing songs and even pray together.  Today I prayed with the sister called ah Ying from Tin Shui Wai sector.  Amazing!

Today we all read Genesis 40 about Joseph's life, he had many gift that God's given him and one of which was that he could interpret the dreams, however, he was in prison for two years because he was forgotten by the chief cup bearer.  Our question is that if there's any area in our life like Joseph, who's been waiting for two years for God's answer and nothing has happened, even he had done nothing  to deserve being put in a dungeon(prison).

In my past 13 years of Xian life, in every single aspect - dating, health, ministry, family, career..... I think I wouldn't have all the answers from God, and all are unseen factors and what drive me to move forward perhaps is to preserve, this is might be one of the gift that God gave me is to preserve.  Hebrew 11:1 to have faith to work out what's said in the bible with lots of unseen factors and uncertainties and it is all what faith is about. Joseph's life is very attractive to me and he's my role model as how to live our life to the full in every circumstances.

Last night I had a good time with Joey in Elizabeth's home, a friend who live in Ma Wan, used to be our sister many years ago, left the church in Vancouver during the storm, now considering coming back to church and restore her faith in Christ, we really need lots of prayer as well as we really need to live our life as Christ like example.

Love you all and have a great weekend!

2010 Nov 19 - Ruth 1 - Shelley

Good morning everyone,

Today is Friday already and it's almost the weekend. We are always
relieved to see Friday approaching us so that we can have some
relaxation over the weekend.

Last night at house church we looked at the book of Ruth. One
scripture that really stood out for me is: Ruth 1:16 'Where you go I
will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people
and your God my God.'

I reflected on this scripture again this morning before I went to
work. Wow this scripture was so inspiring to know that Ruth really
gave up what she wanted to do for her life. Her dreams her desires to
follow her step mother Noami. She went to stay with the Israelites.
She was willing to give up her 'culture' of a Moabitess to be with
Noami. Ruth did not put her own interests first. She gave up so much
to be there for Noami who was widow. It was not about money, status or
their background but it was about the 'friendship and the deep love
they had for one another'.

I admire Ruth so much and I really want to imitate her heart. I am a
foreigner in Hong Kong and I have a lot to learn on what it means to
be a 'Chinese'. Sometimes I have my own thinking and also how I would
like others to relate to me but after reading this today I realise
that I must deny myself more and adapt to Hong Kong culture. When I
move to the Railway sector I want to have the attitude like Ruth and
have a humble heart to learn how things are done in Hong Kong and be
willing to follow through on it. Please pray for me to have a humble
heart like Ruth's heart.

I have my first Cantonese lesson with a disciple in Mongkok after work
tonight. I want to be more willing to learn and set a goal for myself
to learn more vocabulary and be able to use it. The topic will be on
eating in a restaurant so I pray that I can learn a lot. Keep my
learners heart and remain humble.

I wish all of you can learn from each other and see how God can use
you more to bring Him glory. Amen.

Enjoy today it is another beautiful day that God has made for us.

Love, Shelley
